Health Care Legacies

Since we opened our doors in 1997, we are most proud of when our funds have helped organizations initiate or expand health care services that continue to improve and maintain the health status of uninsured, underinsured and underserved people long after our funding has ended. These are our legacies.

Hero Partnership

There are numerous ways to measure the impact of these legacies. Our evaluations have made clear, for example, that today thousands of Contra Costa residents who might have slipped through the cracks in our healthcare system instead have ongoing access to high quality, culturally sensitive primary care, specialty care, dental care, behavioral health care, and healthy aging support services for conditions that range from cancer and chronic disease through dental caries and mental illness.

But it is the faces and words of these people – the relief they clearly feel when a larger system values their lives and their health – that is the most important measure of our work. It is the inspiration we need to do everything we can to make our work last.

Here are some of our current legacies. We expect to add many more in the years ahead.
