La Clínica entered Contra Costa in 1999, with a medical clinic and a dental clinic in Pittsburg; its Monument clinic opened in 2003. Since that time, alongside Contra Costa Health Services, La Clínica has become a significant primary care option for uninsured and underserved residents here, delivering an array of medical, dental, health education, case management, optical, pharmacy, and behavioral health services. It also provides a vital link between low-income residents and the county's hospitals and specialty service providers.
In the current environment, however, La Clínica clearly needed more clinic space. For help attaining that space, they turned to a longtime partner.
The Community Health Fund has been a consistent supporter of La Clínica's expansion in Contra Costa County. Over the past decade we have developed a close and respectful working relationship while providing over $3.4 million in grants. The nearly $1 million to support the renovation of two La Clínica facilities is a dramatic increase over past grants that reflects both the growing role for community clinics and the way that La Clínica has earned our trust by delivering on and sustaining every service and innovation they have asked us to support.
“The first and last dollars are the hardest to get, and the Community Health Fund was at both ends of the spectrum for our Monument expansion,” says Jane Garcia, CEO of La Clínica. “We're eternally grateful for that vote of confidence.”
