The California Association of Physician Groups has come out with its latest “Standards of Excellence” survey of medical groups and IPAs statewide, and not surprisingly many of the same groups dominated the so-called “elite” category.
Among the usual suspects in Northern California: Brown & Toland Physicians, Hill Physicians Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente’s Permanente Medical Group, the Santa Clara County IPA, and Sutter Health’s Sutter Medical Foundation.
Newcomers to the highest, elite rank included the John Muir Physician Network and Physicians Medical Group of Santa Cruz, according to Wells Shoemaker, M.D., CAPG’s medical director.
The survey looked at results at 73 medical groups serving 11 million Californians, with the top 30 elite groups accounting for 9 million, or roughly 82 percent. Standards include care management practices, health IT implementation, “accountability and transparency,” and patient-centered care.
