The first noticeable symptom of bladder cancer is usually blood in the urine. The urine may be visibly red, but sometimes the blood may be microscopic. Early-stage bladder cancer sometimes causes no symptoms, and may be found "incidentally" as a result of blood detected during routine urinalysis.

Having one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that you have bladder cancer. There are several other disorders - including bladder infections (cystitis) - that can cause some of the same symptoms. Your physician will arrange for the appropriate diagnostic tests to ensure that a proper diagnosis can be made and treatment can be initiated at once.
