In general, the risk for prostate cancer increases with age. More than 70 percent of prostate cancers are diagnosed in men over age 65, according to the American Cancer Society.
For unknown reasons, African-American and Hispanic men are at much higher risk than other ethnic groups for developing prostate cancer. Having a first-degree relative - a father, brother, or son -- with prostate cancer also greatly increases a man's likelihood of developing prostate cancer.
