Reason No. 1 - Unit Councils

Decision-Making Authority

At John Muir Health you speak your mind, use your expertise and impact the continuum of care. Our Shared Decision Making model encourages nurses' participation in Unit Councils that support professional nursing practice and a positive work environment. We defer to your collective experience and critical thinking skills, and never underestimate nurses' basic instinct to use the best clinical evidence to make astute patient-care decisions.

Reason No. 2 - Lift Teams

Muscles Not Machines

Some hospitals' idea of a helping hand is a cumbersome contraption. At John Muir Health we have real live Lift Teams 24/7 to take a load off your back, hefty Patient Transport Teams so you don't have to push gurneys, and an IV Team to take care of tough veins. Some units have a dedicated Wound Care RN and energetic Service Workers. While other hospitals are cutting back on support services, ours have never been stronger! And that's less wear and tear on your body.

Reason No. 3 - Unique Programs

Rewards and Recognition

We strongly believe in recognizing those who exemplify excellence, and reward them for contributing to our collective success. From individual to department to spontaneous recognition, Employee Suggestion Awards, Employee Referral Program, Holiday Happenings and many more, we find unique ways to thank our employees for the outstanding efforts they make every day.

Reason No. 4 - IT Initiatives

Patient Safety and Quality Care

Information technology assists the entire nursing process at John Muir Health. Caregivers can access the service, procedures, medications and doctors' notes on every patient instantly. Bar coded meds and Pyxis stations are part of our huge patient safety initiative that has been in place and ongoing for years.

Reason No. 5 - WeeCare Campus

Backup Childcare

WeeCare Campus is our nearby childcare center, designed to meet the specific needs of John Muir Health employees. With a resident RN, it provides convenient care for mildly ill, infant transition or temporary daycare coverage for kids under 12. It is managed by TodayCare Children's Centers, a company that specializes in the development and operation of alternative child care programs. We subsidize much of the program's cost as an employee benefit. Best of all the children are just as excited about it as their parents!

Reason No. 6 - Open Forums

Professional Respect

An important part of our collaborative work environment is good communication with employees. Clinical leadership is visible, active, and respected within the culture. We have open forums where current information is shared and input solicited. There is a strong bond between physicians and nurses - so from a work/ culture standpoint, the respect is mutual all the way around.

Reason No. 7 - Shared Decision-Making

A Sense of Control

We know from years of research that what makes nurses happy is control over their work environment - they want to be able to focus their attention on direct patient care. John Muir Health's Shared Decision Making model allows nurses to join Unit Councils to make changes that benefit patients. You can do the things that really matter, and enjoy greater personal satisfaction.

Reason No. 8 - Stand Out

The Chance to Shine

You're at the point in your career where you experience greater personal fulfillment through recognition of your depth of knowledge and professionalism. You've made the journey from novice nurse to expert practitioner, so you don't come to a hospital like John Muir Health to blend in.You come here to stand out in a position that shows you are at the top of your game!

Reason No. 9 - Teamwork

"I Have Your Back."

When a nurse hears this it means: " if you fall, I'm here to catch you!" You know there's always someone there to look out for you and help. John Muir Health is proud of our teamwork, collaboration, and friendly, participatory esprit de corps. The combination of attentive mentoring and the stimulus of rigorous interaction are readily apparent when you team up with our seasoned experts.
