The Magnet Recognition Program® recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice and adherence to national standards for the organization and delivery of nursing services. An important part of our mission is for each of our nurses to be certified in his/her individual specialty. It's part of our total commitment to quality patient care in every aspect of our operation. Join us now and enrich your personal and professional development, increase your exposure to issues within the nursing community, and contribute to your profession's advancement and dedication to quality patient care.

We support our Concord campus in meeting the ANCC criteria.

Decision-Making Authority

At John Muir Health you can speak your mind, use your expertise and impact the continuum of care. Our Shared Decision-Making Model encourages nurses' participation in Unit Councils that support professional nursing practice and a positive work environment. We defer to the collective experience and critical thinking skills of our staff, and never underestimate our nurses' capacity to use evidence-based practice to make astute patient-care decisions.

A Sense Of Control

We know from years of research that what makes nurses happy is control over their work environment - you want to be able to focus your attention on direct patient care. John Muir Health encourages you to join Unit Councils to make changes that benefit patients, and in doing so you can accomplish the things that really matter and enjoy greater personal and professional satisfaction. Regular RN Satisfaction Surveys keep management informed and allow us to be proactive in meeting nurses' needs.

Professional Respect

An important part of our work environment is good communication between employees. Clinical leadership is visible, active and respected within the culture. We have open forums where current information is shared and input solicited. There is a strong bond between nurses and all the members of our interdisciplinary teams, with a defined procedure developed by the Professional Collaboration Committees on both our Concord and Walnut Creek campuses to support positive interpersonal relationships. Our Physician Leadership has worked with nurses and other disciplines to develop a Standard of Professional Relations policy that sets a standard for behavior that nurtures mutual respect for everyone.

Career Advancement

In addition to the John Muir Scholarship Award Program (where tenured employees can pursue work-related education), a Work Study Program (to pursue advanced degrees), and Annual Tuition Reimbursement, Nurses nurses are also eligible for a Student Loan Forgiveness Program that provides additional support and incentives to new hires who have completed an advanced education program. After successfully completing one year of full- and/or part-time employment, you are eligible to participate. The award is up to $15,000 per year with a maximum of $30,000, and you can access the program for up to four years.
