Women who undergo routine mammograms at John Muir Health facilities now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them – digital mammography. We have nine digital mammography systems at our six locations for greater convenience to our patients. Locations include Brentwood, Concord (coming soon), Walnut Creek (three locations) and San Ramon.
With digital mammography, radiologists can view and manipulate images on high-resolution computer monitors, enhancing visualization of the structures within the breast tissue. They can also adjust brightness and contrast, and zoom in on specific areas to help detect small calcifications, masses and other changes that may be signs of early cancer. John Muir Health's goal is to provide the best possible care to women.
Digital mammography offers a number of other practical advantages and patient conveniences. Because there is no waiting time for film to be developed, it can significantly reduce the time patients spend in the imaging center.
John Muir's comprehensive Breast Health services include advanced screening and diagnostic mammography, genetic counseling and risk assessment, a rapid pathway to care, and a nurse educator who provides individualized information, support and referrals.
