Visiting Hours

VISITORS ARE WELCOME - in fact, encouraged, as they can be a patient's best medicine. However, too many visitors can tire a patient unintentionally. For this reason, we ask that visitors be limited to two at a time, and that the following times be observed:
  • Most nursing units: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Critical Care: ICU, CCU, and NSICU visitors are limited to immediate family. Please limit visits to 15 minutes. Visiting hours are every two hours from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Visiting is not allowed during end of shift report, 3-4 p.m. and 7-8p.m. Children under 12 are not permitted.
  • Pediatrics: Parents are welcome anytime. Healthy siblings and all other visitors may visit from 1 - 9 p.m.
  • Birth Center: Family and friends may visit from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Siblings of the baby may visit if they are accompanied by a responsible adult. They must be healthy and not exposed to communicable diseases.
Pediatrics and the Birth Center have restricted entrances. Please use the phones by the department doors to request entry.

Protect Our Patients

PLEASE DO NOT VISIT IF:
  • You don't feel well.
  • You have a fever or the flu.
  • You have a cold or a sore throat.
  • You have recently been exposed to and have never had chicken pox, measles or mumps.

Respect Our Patients and Staff

John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus encourages visitors, but also must provide for rest and quiet during our patients' recuperation. Please remember that this is a hospital and we need to respect the rights and privacy of others. Please keep the following in mind:
  • Quiet time is all the time. Please be as quiet as possible in the corridors and while visiting in the patient's room.
  • Respect the privacy of others, pull the curtain when visiting and remain on your loved one's side of the room.
  • Be respectful of the property of others.
  • Treat everyone (patients and staff) with courtesy and respect.
  • If you need assistance, please speak with the Nurse Director, Charge Nurse or Patient Services Coordinator.

Surgery Waiting Room

The first floor waiting room near the aquarium has been set up for your comfort when waiting for a loved one in surgery. Volunteers will provide you with information and direct physicians to you when surgery is completed.

Dining Room (Vista Cafe)

The dining room is located on the first floor off the hallway that leads to the ambulance entrance. It is open from 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m., and from 4-7 p.m. Cold drinks and other items are available from nearby vending machines, which operate 24 hours a day.

Spiritual Care

Clergy and lay visitors assigned by congregations or faith groups are encouraged to register with Pastoral Care Services by calling (925) 947-5281. Medical center chaplains are available for referrals and consultation. Our chapel is on the first floor near the central elevator bank. Pastoral Care is now located on the lower level in the West Wing.

Gift Shop/Volunteer Services

Muir Galleria, the medical center gift shop, is located off the main lobby. It is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday as posted. Fresh flowers are available, as well as an excellent selection of gift items, snacks, candy and magazines. Mastercard/Visa are accepted. Proceeds are returned to the medical center. Muir Galleria is one of many services offered by volunteers.

Special Patient/Visitor Services

John Muir Health has initiated a pilot program through Best Upon Request at the Walnut Creek Campus which provides special services for patients and their families. These nonmedical services include: assistance with travel arrangements, assistance with overnight accommodations for their family, restaurant referral/reservations, child/elder care referrals, housecleaning referrals, pet setting referrals, errand/personal shopping, mail/postage and shipping, and local area information. Please contact Best Upon Request at Ext: 33364.

Tobacco Free Campus

Effective September 8, 2008, John Muir Health will be a Tobacco Free organization. Tobacco products will not be permitted at John Muir Health facilities or on John Muir Health property. This includes, but is not limited to John Muir Health grounds, parking lots, offsite offices, outpatient centers or in John Muir Health vehicles.

Guest Internet Access

John Muir Health is please to make complimentary, wireless, Internet access available for patients, patients' family members and visitors while they are in our facilities. We do not provide computers, so Users must have their own computer or other device capable of wireless Internet access. Standard mobile phones which dial into Internet Service Providers will not work on our wireless service. We do not provide printing services.
