The Campaign for John Muir Medical Center refers to the private support portion of the John Muir Medical Center building projects at the Concord and Walnut Creek Campuses. The John Muir Health Foundation is raising funds from its own board members, John Muir Health Board members, employees, physicians, volunteers, Auxiliary, community members, foundations, and corporations. 100% of all contributions to the Capital Campaign directly support the building expansion projects at the Concord and Walnut Creek Campuses.
As the population in Contra Costa County continues to grow, the capacity pressures at the Concord and Walnut Creek Campuses of John Muir Medical Center become even greater. In particular, the need for more patient beds, increased emergency department capacity, and greater operating room availability at both campuses has become evident. This project will directly address those issues.
In addition, rapid changes in healthcare delivery and technology demand a facility that will accommodate medical innovations for decades to come. Advanced clinical technology attracts the high quality physicians who practice at John Muir and allows us to continue our tradition of providing the best in patient care for our community.
Cardiology - the new Cardiovascular Institute at the Concord Campus will be the region's premier center for cardiac services and include 12 private cardiovascular ICU beds, 49 private telemetry beds, and 4 Cardiac Catheterization Labs with space for expansion
Emergency - the Emergency Departments at both campuses will more than double in size and include dedicated Imaging Centers within the department as well as an increase in the number of treatment stations
Neonatal - the Intensive Care Nursery will expand from 19 beds to 34, and provide private rooms for critically ill newborns, each with a special infant care Omnibed, and a sleep chair for a family member
Trauma -Contra Costa County's only designated Trauma Center will include four new custom-designed trauma suites with a dedicated high speed elevator directly from the rooftop helipad to the Emergency Department
Surgery - the number of inpatient surgical suites will increase and include space for current and future technology, as well as expanded pre and post operative areas.
John Muir Health will be using its financial reserves, issuing bonds to borrow funds, and relying on the generosity of community members to support the building expansion projects at the Concord and Walnut Creek Campuses. The Foundation is charged with raising the critical funds for our most exciting and ambitious endeavor to date - a $56 million Capital Campaign in support of the $800 million project.
The John Muir Health Board of Directors determined, after an in-depth study and intensive planning that the building projects at both campuses were necessary to meet community needs and to comply with state regulations.
The John Muir Health Foundation Board of Directors enthusiastically took on the task of supporting a fundraising effort to assist with building projects at the John Muir Medical Center Campuses in Concord and Walnut Creek. A Capital Campaign was developed to direct the fundraising efforts. Board members and Campaign leadership have led the way with their own generous gifts and continue to act as volunteers as the Campaign extends to the entire community.
John Muir Medical Center will continue to offer the full array of services currently available. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to patient care services during the building construction process. Complimentary valet parking is available at both campuses as a courtesy to our patients and visitors. For the most updated construction information, click here.
Groundbreaking for the Patient Care Towers at the Walnut Creek and Concord Campuses took place on January 16, 2008, and February 7, 2008, respectively. Completion of new construction at both campuses is targeted for late 2010.
The new parking garage at the Walnut Creek Campus opened on January 2, 2008.
Philanthropic support from the community is a vital component of the building projects. Contributions to the Capital Campaign help keep the organization strong as it grows. Philanthropic gifts prevent John Muir from exhausting its reserves and also strengthen our bond ratings in the capital market. 100% of all Campaign gifts directly fund the building projects.
