Founded in 1998, the Caring Hands Volunteer Caregivers Program, by using the expertise of social services, case managers and senior services has served almost 1200 seniors and has trained almost 950 volunteers since its inception.
The Caring Hands Volunteer Caregivers Program creates one-on-one matches between caring volunteers and seniors in need who may be frail, isolated, or disabled over the age of 60, enabling them to stay in their homes, and remain independent, as long as safely possible by providing free non-medical in-home assistance. All services are generally provided one to three hours per week to meet a long term need.
"During my time in transitional care unit, I noticed a flyer posted on the board. It was announcing the services of Caring Hands. I wrote down the telephone number. When I was released to my apartment, I was told I had to go to cardiac rehab for several weeks. I called Caring Hands and after an intake, I was assigned a driver. The volunteer driver drove me three days a week from Concord to John Muir Walnut Creek for my rehab sessions. It was a tough time and I can't imagine what I would have done without the volunteer."
