- Hemagloblin A1c: The A1c test evaluates the average amount of glucose in the blood over the last 2 to 3 months. The test is used primarily to monitor the glucose control of diabetes over time. The goal of those with diabetes is to keep their blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible. This helps to minimize the complications caused by chronically elevated glucose levels, such as progressive damage to body organs like the kidneys, eyes, cardiovascular system, and nerves. The A1c test can help a patient and his doctor know if the measures they are taking to control the patient's diabetes are successful or need to be adjusted.
- LDL: LDL is a type of lipoprotein that carries cholesterol in the blood, which is also known as "bad" cholesterol. The test for LDL is used to predict your risk of developing heart disease. Of all the forms of cholesterol in the blood, LDL cholesterol is considered the most important form in determining risk of heart disease. Treatment decisions by a patient's doctors are based on LDL values.
