John Muir Health has many facilities that offer various types of medical imaging procedures. Medical imaging is a sophisticated science that captures internal images of the human body. These procedures are used for diagnosis and treatment of numerous conditions. Images are obtained using various energy sources such as: x-ray (Radiography, Computed Tomography, Mammography), magnetism (MRI), sound (Ultrasound) and gamma rays (Nuclear Medicine). Throughout each procedure, precautions are taken to protect the health and well-being of the patient.
We offer CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray/fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Bone Density Measurements and other special procedures in a patient-friendly environment. In most instances, the technologist will perform the imaging procedure, a skilled radiologist will then interpret the exam, and a report will be sent to the patient's physician.
All of our facilities have the capability of viewing images digitally using PACS (Picture Archival and Communication System). This technology enables us to provide a faster and better diagnosis by comparing a current exam against a prior exam performed within the same modality or other modalities.
