On November 18, a special news segment on our revolutionary Novalis® Shaped Beam Surgery technology ("brain surgery without the knife") was broadcast during the 6 p.m. news on KGO-TV, Ch. 7. The reporter was Leslie Brinkley. The story featured a local Rossmoor patient and her treatment for a non-cancerous brain tumor. Drs. Terence Chen, medical director of neurosurgery services, and Vincent Massullo, chair of Radiation Oncology, were featured. On November 9, Dr. Dean Edell's Medical Journal, also on Ch. 7, covered a new technique in knee replacement surgery called the "Mini Knee," performed at John Muir by orthopedic surgeon Ramiro Miranda, M.D. The story covered a local patient's remarkably quick recovery based on the new procedure, which spares the quadriceps muscle and tendon that run down the front of the knee by approaching the surgery from the side. The patient has now returned to Heather Farms as an umpire in his softball league. For more information on orthopedic surgeons affiliated with the John Muir/Mt. Diablo Health System, click here.
