We are proud to announce that John Muir Health has earned the Gold Seal of Approval^™ for stroke care.

Stroke Center Certification

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) recently awarded John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus and John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus, Primary Stroke Center Certification. Our medical centers are the first in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, and two of 130 certified nationwide to receive Stroke Center certification. What is a Stroke Center?

John Muir Health has an organized approach to assess and treat patients who are having a stroke. Our stroke programs follow national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients including:

Rapid stroke assessment
Neurologists available for consultation 24 hours a day
State-of-the-art treatment options including intravenous tPA (clot busting medication)
Designated stroke care units
Participation in research protocols for new medications
Professional stroke education
Inpatient rehabilitation unit and outpatient services

Know the Warning Signs of Stroke:

Sudden numbness of face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
Sudden confusion, trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
Sudden severe headache with no known cause
