Emergency Medical Help in the Event of a Disaster

Public Disaster Response

In light of recent events, we want to reassure you that the Health System will be there for you and your family in the event of a disaster. At any time, if you have any of the following conditions or symptoms, please come to a hospital or emergency room:

  1. Shortness of breath
  2. Chest pain
  3. Profuse vomiting or diarrhea
  4. Swollen or deformed body part
  5. Significant watering of your eyes, mouth, and/or nose
  6. Fever >101
  7. Severe lightheadedness or passing out
  8. Severe abdominal pain
  9. Bloody vomit or stools
  10. Burns or blisters on your skin
  11. Severe headache
  12. Swelling of lips or tongue

This list by no means all-inclusive, and if you believe that you need medical attention, seek emergency care immediately.

Please keep in mind, however, that during a disaster or crisis, your hospitals and emergency rooms will be working overtime. Therefore, it is important that you visit these institutions only if you are experiencing a true emergency. In addition, if you have a loved one that you know or suspect to be receiving treatment at one of these facilities, it is better to send a single family member or representative to check on them, so as not to overwhelm hospitals resources and take away from their ability to treat injured and sick patients. Thank you.
