New, quieter, state-of-the-art helicopter to serve John Muir Medical Center

WALNUT CREEK — California Shock Trauma Air Rescue, or CALSTAR, has acquired a new medical helicopter that will begin servicing John Muir Medical Center and much of the Bay Area this weekend. The hospital's trauma team praised the helicopter's quietness and safety during a training session Friday. The craft has no tail rotor and the top-rotor stops in seconds, instead of needing two minutes to cool-down, reducing the risk of injury to ground crews and speeding up the time it takes to get patients into the hospital.
