The Pharmacy Department at John Muir Health is actively involved in improving patient safety. The Department has taken specific steps to safeguard your health in support of the National Patient Safety Goals, such as:

• Confirming patient identification
• Increasing communication among caregivers
• Ensuring the safety of using medications and infusion pumps
• Reducing the risk of health care-associated infections

Participate in Clinical Trials

John Muir Health Pharmacy Department supports clinical trials involving investigational drugs at our inpatient facilities and infusion center. There are currently several trials underway at the Pharmacy, including:

• SAINT II and CHANT - two trials investigating the use of a new medication for use in both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
• LIPOS - a trial investigating the benefit of a lipid product in treating sepsis
• Tolvaptan - a trial investigating the benefit of the new medication Tolvaptan in patients with heart failure
• NIH-sponsored Oncology Studies - various trials of new regimens and new agents in the chemotherapeutic treatment of cancer
