In recent years, there has been an increased focus on patient safety. Research has shown technology can decrease the risk of errors and situations that can harm patients. To ensure we protect our patients, the Board of Directors has approved a multi-million dollar initiative for technologies shown to improve patient safety.
We are improving access to patient information in order to make the best and safest possible clinical decisions by:
- Providing staff with internet access to clinical data, patient charts, and x-rays
- Enhancing our computerized charting systems to improve the consistency and completeness of patient information
- Improving our bar-coded bedside medication administration systems to ensure patients get the right drug at the right time every time
- Implementing a system to actively monitor all patient information and alert clinicians of situations that need their attention.
We ensure our patients get the highest quality care by:
- Moving to more advanced pharmacy systems that help pharmacy staff monitor the medications given to patients
- Installing a robot in the pharmacy that gathers patient medications, removing the possibility of human error
- Enhancing our decision support systems to improve our ability to evaluate the care our patients get, determine where to make improvements, and monitor the effect of changes on patient outcomes
- Implementing a computerized physician order entry system that automatically displays needed data, suggests actions based on best practices, and warns them if they are ordering something that may harm their patient
- Providing tools to improve the care of our patients who have chronic diseases
- Providing preventative services including mammography and colonoscopies.
