John Muir Health is dedicated to improving the safety of our patients. To meet this objective, John Muir Health is committed to achieving the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' "National Patient Safety Goals."

2007 Hospitals' National Patient Safety Goals

Goal: Improve the accuracy of patient identification.
Goal: Improve the effectiveness of communication among caregivers.
Goal: Improve the safety of using high alert medications.
Goal: Improve the safety of using infusion pumps.
Goal: Reduce the risk of health care-acquired infections.
Goal: Accurately and completely reconcile medications across the continuum of care.
Goal: Reduce the risk of patient harm resulting from falls.
Goal: Encourage the active involvement of patients and their families in the patient's care as a patient-safety strategy.
Goal: Identify safety risks inherent in the patient population.
Goal: Prevent wrong site and wrong patient surgery/procedures.
