Women's Health Center

The Women's Health Center provides classes and programs to over 30,000 participants per year. Each program is evaluated by the participant for quality, including content, instructor, facility and ease of registration.

Women's Heart Program

Over 3,000 free Women's Heart Risk Assessments [HRA] and over 1000 lipid screens.

100% of participants in the Women's Heart Comprehensive Appointment rated 5 out of 5 and would recommend this service.

California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) Member

One of more than 60 hospitals, JMH is a member of this state initiative to promote quality improvement activities. Its database links with the national Vermont Oxford Neonatal Network (VONN) to provide quality benchmarks and best practices for Neonatal Intensive Care Units, which allow for data-driven performance improvement.

Perinatal Profiles

Perinatal Profiles provides information to facilitate quality improvement among California regions and hospitals. It includes reporting patient characteristics and outcomes for:

  • The entire state
  • Each perinatal region
  • Each maternity facility

Birth certificate data are linked with Death Certificate data during the first year of life.

Breastfeeding Initiative

John Muir Health is dedicated to supporting the breastfeeding of infants in the first year of life as part of our commitment to breastfeeding. JMWC campus is in partnership with the Women's Health Center provides a comprehensive breastfeeding support program. This includes:

  • Hospital rounds 7 days per week
  • Free telephone support line
  • Free support classes
  • Pump rentals
  • Supplies

In addition, the Breast Feeding Task Force includes a multidisciplinary group of team members, doctors, nurses, and nutritionists focusing on the promotion of breastfeeding to increase the success and length of breastfeeding post discharge.

Other ongoing initiatives at JMWC Birth Center include:

  • Specialized training of the Birth Center Nurses to support early initiation and troubleshoot with breastfeeding infants.
  • Adoption of the skin-to-skin policy, which promotes early bonding and initiation of breastfeeding in the first hours of life.
  • Partnership with pediatricians and obstetricians in creating optimum delivery experiences for the initiation of breastfeeding, including operative deliveries.
  • Tracking of breastfeeding rates including initiation and continuance.
