Imaging services offered at John Muir Health include:

Technology

Technological advances are constantly being made in medical imaging. It is through the use of these modalities and applications we can better make quality diagnoses.

Computed Tomography

The most advanced CT scanner in terms of speed and resolution is now available at John Muir Health, Concord Campus, due to a new state-of-the-art, 64 slice computed tomography (CT) scanner. This scanners speed and resolution capabilities allow John Muir Health to offer CT coronary artery angiography to patients. High resolution CT scanners are available at all John Muir Health campuses and all are capable of CT angiography as well as fast, high resolution routine scanning.

Nuclear Medicine

Between our three campuses, we have six Dual-head Scintillation Cameras. Our camera at Brentwood Campus and Walnut Creek Campus have SPECT/CT capability. Our capability includes all general Nuclear Medicine procedures including Nuclear Cardiology studies. The Nuclear Medicine department at the Concord Campus is a CLIA certified lab - one of the very few such facilities.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to view internal organs and produce images of the human body. The human ear cannot hear the sound waves used in an ultrasound. Ultrasound is noninvasive, which means it does not penetrate the skin or body openings, and diagnostic, which means it is used to determine what disease or condition is present. John Muir Medical Imaging offers state of art equipment with board certified ultrasonographers at all of our locations:

Type of examinations offered:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI-3T in 3rd Qtr 08)

John Muir Health has a 1.5 telsa (1.5T) high-field MRI system equipped with an ultra-short, ultra-wide bore that delivers more patient-friendly exams and high-performance applications. John Muir Health has technology with a high field 1.5 telsa scanner which delivers exceptional clarity, confidence and certainly. In the third quarter of this year John Muir Health will posses the highest field MRI scanner on the market 3Telsa. 3 Telsa MRI systems are twice as powerful as and faster than the standard MRI machines (1.5T) typically used for patient care imaging. Additionally, such powerful magnet will also be used to scan the entire body for otolaryngology, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and orthopedic and select pediatric cases. exceptional clarity, confidence and certainly.

John Muir offers both analog and digital mammography. As we move through the technology age, John Muir strives to improve and update our equipment to continue to be state of the art. A number of our sites already have digital mammography and the total transition will be complete by mid 2008.

We offer the following breast imaging services:

Our breast imaging sites are:

Bone Density

John Muir Medical Imaging offers the latest technology in acquiring measurements of bone loss based on one's age, ethnicity, disease process or medications that may inhibit proper calcium absorption which can lead to bone loss and osteoporosis. DEXA Bone Densitometry includes Hip and/or Spine, Vertebral fracture assessment and Screening exams. These exams are conveniently offered at several John Muir Medical Imaging departments in Brentwood, Concord, and Walnut Creek.

X-ray - CR / DR, Filmless

General X-rays are now taken using Computed Radiography (CR) and Digital Radiography (DR) systems. These are filmless forms of x-ray imaging instead of using traditional photographic film. Some of the advantages of these technologies are:

PACS System

John Muir Health uses a PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System) to store and distribute images throughout the organization. The PACS supports all 10 imaging departments in Brentwood, Concord, San Ramon, and Walnut Creek.
