This world needs more people like you...

More people who are willing to leave things a little better than they found them, to reach out with compassion...

People who are willing to put all selfishness aside to do the good, right, kind thing - just because they know it will make a difference someday to someone.

This world needs more people like you.

The Caring Hands Volunteer Caregivers Program Staff thanks each of you for you, and sends our best wishes to you for happiness and health during the Holidays and for the New Year!

A Caregiver's Reflections

This feature story is written by three Walnut Creek senior care receivers about their one, very special volunteer...

"He has been wonderful and always nice. He sits waiting outside when I am not ready and doesn't complain. If he says he is coming to take me to a doctor's appointment or shopping, he does. I like to talk to him too. Often I think I ask too many questions. He is a great guy. There are several neighbors who wish they had a David but I am not letting him go," says Edna May. "David has been my volunteer since April 2004."

"My Caring Hands volunteer has proven to be a real gem. His eagerness to please and dedication to his work has contributed greatly to my health and well being. In addition I have found the concern of the office staff to be most comforting. Quite simply - they care," says Isadore who has been matched with David since August 2004.

May says, "David brings kindness and reliability to the commitment he's made. CFIDS, fibromyalgia and a serious brain lesion contribute to my difficulties with movement, including standing and walking. These are not obvious disabilities during brief interactions. With David, I can relax. He's never made a thoughtless comment regarding my health as do so many others about persons with CFIDS. I can trust in receiving from him the friendly, respectful physical help only he gives." May and David were also matched in August 2004.

"When I saw a write-up in the church bulletin three years ago, I felt called by God to respond," says David McCargar. "Nonetheless, I confess I was a bit apprehensive at first since this was a big step outside my "normal" sphere of comfort; however, I need not have worried. The past 2-1/2 years have been rewarding to me, both in the satisfaction of helping others, as well as just getting to know and appreciate these three individuals, each of whom is unique and special to me."

The Vintage Review

The 3rd Vintage Review is coming this Spring!

In 2003 we honored the John Muir Medical Center Auxiliary and Mrs. Miriam H. LarRieu and raised more than $20,000. In 2005 we honored Ruth Arnhold posthumously and Dick Clancy of Security Pacific Real Estate and raised more than $50,000!

In 2007, we are very proud to announce that we will be honoring Ms. Barbara Schuh as well as Mr. Bob Clough for their life-long contributions to improving the quality of life for many people in our community. Both serve as role models for their staunch advocacy for seniors and their charitable giving.

The fundraising dinner will be held in the spring of 2007. More information will be forthcoming! If you are interested in tickets or serving on our committee, please give Carol Louisell a call at (925) 952-2999.
