How many hours do I need to fast prior to my lab test(s)?
If you are taking a test that requires fasting, please do not eat anything for 12 to 14 hours prior to visiting one of our centers. You may only drink water.

How long does it take to get the results of a urine culture?
About 3 days.

How long does it take to get STAT results?
"STAT" tests are tests specifically ordered by a physician for immediate results, and are limited to a list of specific tests. The turn-around time for STAT tests is about 4 hours from the time the specimen reaches the lab.

How may I obtain my test results?
We strongly encourage you to contact your doctor first as he or she will help you to understand your results. If a Release of Results form has been signed, your results will be sent to you in the manner indicated on the form. You may also call our Client Services Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (925) 692-5600 or 1 (800) 677-4525.

Do I need an appointment to have my lab work drawn?
No appointment is necessary. Our Patient Service Centers service our clients on a first-come-first-serve basis. Waiting times can vary greatly depending on customer volume, time of day, paper work, the complexity of each client's needs, and other unforeseen factors. The average wait time per client is 20 minutes.

Can I order tests on myself?
No. MuirLab does not offer Direct Access Testing.

What is an ICD-9 code and why is it so important?
ICD-9 codes are diagnoses codes regulated by Medicare and used for a variety of reasons. Doctors are required to provide ICD-9 codes in the treatment of their patients. Insurance companies require these codes as an explanation for an occurrence or patient visit to a doctor's office, clinical tests and/or procedures.

Under most circumstances we collect your insurance or billing information and our billing department will process the charges to your insurance carrier. For some special tests payment is required at the time of service.

Always check with your doctor for specific preparations you must make before having your blood drawn. Tests that require you to fast include, but are not limited to, glucose, lipid panels, and comprehensive panels. Fasting means you must not eat and you may drink only water—no tea, coffee, or juices—for 12 to 14 hours before your test. If you have questions or concerns about pre-test requirements that may be unique to your situation, please ask your doctor.
