Many seniors have daily difficulty getting where they need to go. Fortunately, numerous services in central and east Contra Costa County can help. Here’s a summary of public and private transportation options. If you have an emergency need for medical attention, call 911.

Public Programs for Disabled Seniors

Description:

Door-to-door transportation for disabled residents available by reservation

Description:

Wheelchair accessible door-to-door transportation for seniors (65+) and disabled people who can’t meet buses at fixed route bus stops.

Service area:

Antioch, Bay Point, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Oakley, Pittsburg, Concord (John Muir Medical Center - Concord Campus and BART)

Fare:

$2 to $4 one way

Hours:

Based on a fixed route service in rider’s area

Eligibility:

Must meet ADA eligibility criteria. Applications take 3-4 weeks for approval.

Senior discount tickets for people age 65+. For discount, must present proof of age or doctor’s proof of disability.

Brentwood Dimes-a-Ride

Description:

Available to general public. “Flag stop” service stops when hailed at intersections along the route.

Lamorinda Spirit Van

Transportation available to local shopping and medical appointments. Also goes to the Walnut Creek Senior Center for weekday lunch program at no charge. Advance reservation required.

Lamorinda and the Walnut Creek Senior Center for lunch program.

$3 one way, $6 round trip for errands and appointments

Pleasant Hill Senior Van Service

Rossmoor Transportation Services

Description:

Buses operate seven days a week with fixed and flexible routes.

Senior Helpline Services - Reassurance Phone Friends & Rides for Seniors

Description:

Trained volunteers (in their own cars) provide free “door-through-door” rides to seniors who are no longer driving or able to access other forms of transportation for medical appointments, dental care, and grocery shopping.
