Key benefits of this program include:
A prospective, multi-disciplinary tumor board
Your patient will benefit from having his/her case presented at our weekly multi-disciplinary Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board. Our dedicated team of four neurosurgeons, multiple radiation and medical oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, neuropsychologists, medical physicists, nurse navigators, clinical research nurses, and social workers review every case, and make collaborative decisions about the best possible plan for treatment. In addition, each patient has access to research protocols.
Multi-specialty participation in every Tumor Board ensures individualized treatment recommendations in concordance with best practices. Every aspect of your patient’s physical findings is considered in the plan for treatment. We base our treatment recommendations on the patient’s physical findings and imaging, but also recognize their psychosocial needs, spiritual needs, and quality of life goals.
As the referring physician, you have an open invitation to participate in the Tumor Board. You will receive a call from our office the same day your patient is presented, providing immediate feedback on the plan of care.
Holistic care incorporating physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs, and quality of life goals
When you refer a patient to John Muir Health for treatment, you will remain involved in the patient’s care from referral through follow-up. Our team partners with you to deliver comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, holistic care at an American College of Radiology (ACR) accredited facility with Magnet-designated nursing.
Dedicated nurse navigator
Your patient will be assigned a nurse navigator who is dedicated to the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology program, and will serve as a single-point of contact for you and your office, and all other physicians and clinicians involved in the case. In addition, the nurse will serve as the main point of contact for your patient and his/her family, and will walk the patient through the entire process and coordinate ancillary testing, consultations and/or follow-up appointments as needed.
