John Muir Health is one of select hospitals accepting referrals of qualified patients for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), an alternative to traditional surgical valve replacement (SVR) procedures approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in November 2011 to treat aortic stenosis. This minimally invasive procedure is an option for patients who are at high risk for open-chest surgery, in particular if they present with co-morbidities that may compromise potential benefits from traditional treatment.
