Advanced New Technology Saves Julie’s Life

On March 14, 2016, the John Muir Health Breast Health Center opened in Walnut Creek to provide patients with a centralized location for all breast health services, including imaging, treatment, genetic counseling, surgery and follow-up.

Breast cancer survivor, Julie Long, was screened and diagnosed at John Muir Health using digital breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3-D mammography.  This advanced new technology is revolutionary for patients like Julie who have dense breast tissue, where tumors can remain undetected by standard mammography.

The Legacy gift of longtime donors Jack and Patsy Brown helped fund the advanced technology that detected Julie’s breast cancer and saved her life.

“I wish I could thank Jack and Patsy Brown in person for their generosity and for knowing that John Muir Health would use their gift in the best possible way.  My family and I are forever indebted to them.”
