Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder that usually involves abdominal pain and cramping, as well as changes to bowel movements.

Because IBS is different for everyone, we work with you and your child to provide a nutritional plan that is uniquely suited for him.

Symptoms can vary and may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Gas
  • Abdominal pain
  • Sensitivity to certain foods

Stress can often contribute to or aggravate IBS symptoms. If you suspect your child has irritable bowel syndrome, you should contact your child’s pediatrician.

Coming Up with a Nutritional Plan

Because IBS can manifest itself in so many different ways, it is crucial to come up with a treatment plan that is very much targeted to relieve the specific symptoms your child is experiencing. Our pediatric registered dietitian will sit down with you and your child and make a thorough analysis of your child’s diet and lifestyle. With your input, we devise a nutritional plan and make recommendations for other programs or activities that will help alleviate the pain.
