Expert Pediatric Neurosurgery Care—Close To Home

For parents in Contra Costa County and surrounding communities, having a child with a complex medical condition used to mean spending lots of time traveling all over the Bay Area for visits with children’s specialists.

Through our collaboration with Stanford Children’s Health, we treat the brain, spine, skull, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves using traditional and minimally invasive neurosurgery techniques.

In addition to your pediatric neurosurgeon, your child’s care team may also include nurses and other healthcare providers—all who have advanced training in specifically treating children and teens.

Meet Your Doctors

David Hong, MD

Pediatric Neurosurgery

I understand that neurosurgery can be very daunting to families. I work very hard to build trust with the families I see, and I want parents to know that I will spend all the time it takes to address any concerns or questions they might have about the surgery. I want parents to feel safe entrusting me with their child’s care. The most rewarding part of my work is the ability to make a real difference in a child’s life.

In addition to being the best surgeon I can be, I also make sure to let parents know that I have compassion for what they are going through. I want them to know they can come to me with any question they have. There’s no such thing as a silly question.

Gerry Grant, MD

Pediatric Neurosurgery

I believe that as healers and physicians, we should treat every child as if they were part of our own family. We provide highly specialized, state-of-the-art pediatric neurosurgical care, using some of the world's most technically advanced procedures and imaging modalities but we also recognize the importance of treating the child or young adult in a supportive and compassionate environment.

I find children to be incredibly mature in their ability to face new challenges, and I try to involve them as much as possible in the day-to-day decision-making. I will become their champion to do whatever I can to allow them to focus on being a kid again.
