Many seniors have daily difficulty getting where they need to go. Fortunately, numerous services in central and east Contra Costa County can help. Here's a summary of public and private transportation options. If you have an emergency need for medical attention, call 911.

Public Transportation

Description:

An advance reservation, dial-a-ride, door-to-door transportation system serving disabled residents.

Service Area:

Alamo, Clayton, Concord, Danville, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon and Walnut Creek.

$4 each way

4:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. Monday – Friday

Tri-Delta Transit Dial-A-Ride

Description:

Wheelchair accessible door-to-door transportation for seniors (65+) and disabled people who are unable to meet bus at Tri-Delta Transit fixed route bus stops.

Service Area:

Antioch, Bay Point, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Oakley and Pittsburg, John Muir Medical Center Concord via Concord BART station.

Fare:

$2.50 - $5.50 one way, depends if rider is within zone (¾ mile of fixed route) or outside of zone.

Hours:

Based on a fixed route service in rider’s area.

Eligibility:

Must meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) criteria. Applications take 3-4 weeks for approval.

Transportation available to local shopping and medical appointments. Also goes to the Walnut Creek Senior Center for lunch program weekdays $2.50 one way. Advance reservation required.

$5.00 one way, $10 round trip for errands and appointments

Pleasant Hill Senior Van Service

Information:

Monday – Friday to Pleasant Hill, Tuesday to Walnut Creek for medical appointments, Thursday to Concord and Martinez for medical appointments, errands.

Rossmoor Transportation Services

Description:

Buses operate seven days a week with fixed and flexible routes.

Service Area:

Within the Rossmoor community, Rossmoor shopping center, as well as downtown Walnut Creek.

San Ramon Senior Express Van

Door to door pick up and drop off at Alcosta Senior Center, Monday – Friday. Provides rides from Senior Center to local shopping every other Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Requires 24-hour advance reservation.

Senior Helpline Services - Reassurance Phone Friends & Rides for Seniors

Information:

Description:

Trained volunteers (in their own cars) provide free door-through-door rides to seniors who are no longer driving or able to access other forms of transportation for medical appointments, dental care and grocery shopping.

Hours:

Rates:

Gurney - $130 for pick up plus $3 per mile.
Wheelchair - $45 each way plus $2 per mile.
Wait Time Rate - flat rate includes 1.5 hour wait time.
Stairs – yes, billed as gurney transportation.

United Medical Services
