MuirLab: John Muir Health's Outreach Laboratory Service

MuirLab, the Outreach Laboratory Service of John Muir Health, has begun a new era in laboratory medicine. Our 56,000 square foot facility in Concord California combines outstanding personnel with state-of-the-art technology in order to provide the highest quality service possible in today’s lab industry.

MuirLab has a broad menu of services that include those provided to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, as well as biotech and research facilities. In addition to outpatient lab facilities, we also provide onsite phlebotomy services, clinical trials and instrumentation testing services.

MuirLab features the most recent innovation in total lab automation and clinical lab equipment. These key investments improve efficiency and accuracy in specimen handling and enhanced turn-around-time for test results – all of which contribute to outstanding patient care. In addition to MuirLab’s investment in its new infrastructure, we remain committed to quality and process improvement.

The MuirLab laboratory services team now exceeds more than 700 highly-trained professionals in a variety of laboratory disciplines which include support staff, phlebotomists and technicians, clinical laboratory scientists, and pathologists who are backed by extensive quality assurance programs and accreditations by the College of American Pathologists and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

MuirLab’s Patient Service Centers (PSCs) provide out-patient specimen collection seven days a week at convenient locations within an 80-mile radius of the Concord/Walnut Creek campuses. These PSCs also serve the areas of Sacramento and Jackson. Our laboratory draw sites are staffed by highly competent state-licensed phlebotomists who are thoroughly trained in the techniques needed for the collection of blood, urine, sputum, stool and throat cultures. Our phlebotomists are also trained in BLS and customer service. We consistently work to innovate and improve operations in order to provide outstanding service, and we value your trust in allowing us the opportunity to do so.
