John Muir Health's Breast Health Services focus on providing prompt, attentive care of breast cancer patients during screening, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Comprehensive programs and services include advanced breast imaging, risk assessment, and self-examination instruction. A nurse educator is also available at both Walnut Creek campuses to provide information, support and referral.

Every Woman Counts Program
Central/East Contra Costa County low-income, uninsured
or underinsured women who are over 40 are
offered access to mammograms, clinical breast examinations,
medical diagnosis and education. Call (925) 674-2001
for eligibility information or to make an appointment.

Rapid Pathway
Within 72 hours of referral, arrangements are made for patients
at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek or Concord
Campus, to see a breast surgeon, followed by review of the case
by a multidisciplinary consultative tumor board that makes

Genetic Counseling and Cancer Risk Assessment/Testing Service
An individual assessment of hereditary and non-hereditary
risk factors is provided as well as information that
can be used to make decisions about follow-up and

An analysis that includes an individual assessment of
familial and other risk factors as well as surveillance

A multidisciplinary panel of medical experts at John Muir
Medical Center - Walnut Creek, reviews the

A multidisciplinary panel of medical experts at John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus, reviews the

Breast Self-Examination Instruction
Breast health nurses at John Muir Medical Center Concord Campus and John Muir Medical Center Walnut Creek Campuss are available to provide one-on-one breast self-examination instruction. This course addresses the medical, physical, social and
psychological effects of breast cancer. Meets alternately at

Outpatient mammography screenings utilizing state-ofthe- art computer assisted detection (CAD), is offered by appointment at multiple sites. A physician's referral is required. Support Group for Younger Women with Breast Cancer
Utilizing both education and support, issues addressed in
this support group may include, but are not limited to, fertility
issues, surgically or chemically-induced menopausal
concerns, cancer diagnosis effects on children and family.
Meets fourth Wednesday of each month from 7-9 p.m.
at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus.

A drop-in support group for women with advanced
breast cancer. Meets in the Cancer Library at John

The Wig Source
The John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus
Auxiliary provides free wigs to women and children
experiencing hair loss due to medical treatment, such
as chemotherapy for cancer. This service is provided
regardless of where treatment is being received. The
Wig Source provides free fittings and services on the
second and fourth Friday of each month by appointment
at the John Muir Women's Health Center. Call
