John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus opened the first cardiac catheterization laboratory in 1973. John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus's catheterization laboratory opened shortly thereafter. Between the two, there are 6 high-volume labs that use state-of-the-art technology. There are 3 dedicated cardiac surgery suites that can accommodate the newest cardiac surgical procedures. John Muir Health utilizes the DaVinci Surgical Robot during specialized cardiac valve repair. Recently, John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus became one of only a few centers in the country that have performed heart valve repair with the aid of the Robot. The cardiologists and cardiac surgeons have performed thousands of procedures. These specialists are supported by highly skilled and experienced nurses. Many nurses hold advanced degrees and national certifications and are considered experts in their field. Also supporting the team are technicians, perfusionists, and other specialized staff.
John Muir Health continues to add new techniques as they become available to its already comprehensive cardiac program. John Muir Health promotes the utilization of new technology and new research for heart disease and its treatment. Prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation will continue to be a major focus of care at John Muir Health.
