Symposium Description

The John Muir Cardiac Rhythm Center is sponsoring an exciting review of current arrhythmia management. The symposium will feature nationally recognized arrhythmia experts, and cardiac electrophysiologists and cardiac surgeons on staff at John Muir Health. Topics will include atrial fibrillation management, prevention of sudden cardiac death including current indications for implantable defibrillators, and devicebased management of heart failure. The symposium is open to any physician or allied professional with an interest in arrhythmia management.

Symposium Objectives

Participant will be able to describe:

  1. Strategies for identification of patients at high risk for sudden death.
  2. Patient selection for prophylactic implantable cardioverter defibrillator placement.
  3. Clinical benefits and applications for cardiac resynchronization therapy.
  4. Optimal pacing strategies for patients with dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure.
  5. Anatomic substrates and electrophysiologic mechanisms leading to atrial fibrillation.
  6. Expanding applications for catheter ablation and surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation.
  7. Importance of the pulmonary veins in genesis and treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
