John Muir Health offers job shadowing to students enrolled in high school and college who are interested in health care careers. Job shadows are for 4 hours, one time only. You will need to provide written proof of a negative TB (tuberculosis) test within the past 12 months, immunization records from birth, a signed document stating you understand the HIPAA, confidentiality law, and emergency contact information. Please note: for the safety of our patients and employees all individuals who wish to job shadow must also be able to show proof of having received the H1N1 vaccination. HOSA is a national, professional organization for high school and college students interested in a health care career. John Muir Health HOSA teaches professional behavior and leadership skills. It also offers opportunities for students to participate in community service activities and provides information about health care careers. John Muir Health HOSA is a professional organization with by-laws, officers, dues and a dress code. HOSA members in good standing have the opportunity to apply for HOSA scholarships. HOSA membership looks great on your resume, college or job application.
The John Muir Health chapter of HOSA meets every week at John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus. John Muir Health HOSA provides guest speakers and tours of our facilities. John Muir Health HOSA members have the opportunity to attend the Cal-HOSA Fall Leadership Institute and the Cal-HOSA State Leadership Conference held each spring. As part of the Cal-HOSA State Leadership Conference, we compete in various health care events. Those who win gold, silver or bronze at the State Conference have the opportunity to attend the National Conference and compete against thousands of other HOSA Members across the Nation in their winning event.

High school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years of age by the start of the program can apply for a paid, Summer Internship at John Muir Health. As a Summer Intern, you will work 40 hours per week in a clerical job in a John Muir Health department. You will take an ROP health career exploration class three hours per week for 5 elective high school credits.
We are seeking mature, hard working interns who have good school attendance, a minimum 3.0 GPA and who are interested in learning about career opportunities in healthcare.
We hire approximately 40 exceptional interns each summer at our Concord and Walnut Creek Campuses. We will attempt to place interns in an area of interest of their choice.
Our hiring process includes completing an on-line application a phone interview, in-person interviews and a written essay. In some cases depending upon the department sought, applicants may be required to complete a skills test evaluating their Microsoft Office Skills.
