"I grew up in the Bay Area and I knew I was destined to work here. I started in the department as a Clinical Fellow and was excited to work with Speech Language Pathologists who've been here for twenty plus years. We deal with high acuity patients with lots of challenges. I enjoy it because I work primarily on the Rehab unit but I also get to work with acute patients...it's a good daily mix of patients ready to start actively working on their recovery."

John Muir Rehabilitation offers evaluation and treatment of Dysphasia by licensed Speech/Language Pathologists in the hospitals and outpatient therapy centers. Evaluation involves a variety of approaches but can be divided into instrumental and non-instrumental techniques. Our SLPs partner with physicians in selecting the best techniques for swallow assessment. Speech pathologists also offer evaluation and treatment of voice disorders for problems resulting from overuse, abuse, structural, or organic problems. SLPs play an integral role on the acute inpatient rehab unit and are part of the treatment team of PT, OT, MD, RN and Neurophysiologists. They assess both cognitive and swallow functions of our neurologically impaired patients.

New Grads

You'll play an integral role in our patients' health care as they undergo different procedures. You could be assigned to acute care, inpatient rehab or one of five outpatient therapy centers in central Contra Costa County. We are not just limited to hospital-based acute care or inpatient practice - we have everything. When we bring people into our system, they find their niche and stay here.

At John Muir Health you will find what you need - the opportunity to learn and the guidance of mentors who help you out, but give you enough room to do your own thing. Any experience you gain that involves communication - how to express yourself and get your point across clearly - will stand you in good stead.

To use everything you know about the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders, consider applying at John Muir Health.
