The John Muir Health mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve with quality and compassion. The JMH Board approved the following vision statement to provide direction for the community benefit programs of John Muir Health
John Muir Health Vision for a Healthy Community
- All residents achieve and maintain optimal physical and mental health.
- Children succeed in school and reach their full potential.
- Residents are economically independent and have access to adequate, affordable housing.
- Neighborhoods are safe.
- Violence, discrimination and injustice are eliminated.
- The air and water are clean.
- Residents are politically, socially and culturally active.
To achieve the JMH vision for a health community, JMH utilizes two vehicles:
programs and partnerships and philanthropy. Philanthropic initiatives are implemented through the Community Health Fund. Programs and partnerships are coordinated through the Community Health Alliance.
The Community Health Alliance serves as a steward for the health system's charitable purposes. The Community Health Alliance's primary roles are coordinating the community benefit planning process for the health system and acting as its liaison to the community-at-large.
As such, CHA:
- Conducts community assessments to identify unmet health needs
- Develops the annual community benefit plan based on community assessments and other health-related data and information for the health system service area.
- Facilitates hospital staff activity in the community
- Convenes potential partners, e.g. health care providers, public agencies, schools, religious leaders, community-based organizations, and other service organizations.
- Develops collaborative solutions based on community needs.
- Participates, where appropriate, in the implementation of community-based program solutions and provides direct services.
- Assists in the evaluation of community health initiatives.
