Twice a year, MuirLab offers educational seminars to their long-term care clients. The spring seminar is held in May at a central location in Walnut Creek. Guest speakers provide expert opinions on various infection control topics. The fall seminar is held in November. At these fall seminars, MuirLab's own infection control specialists provide information on several topics of current interest in the field of infection control. The fall seminar consists of six sessions held at such various locations as Citrus Heights, Concord, Modesto, Hayward, San Bruno and Sunnyvale. A full breakfast is provided as part of the each seminar and CE credits are given as well.
Topics addressed cover a wide range of interests and concerns. The following is a list of topics addressed in the past: Preventing the Transmission of Tuberculosis, Pertussis, Avian Influenza, Seasonal Influenza, West Nile Virus, Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease, SARS, Norovirus, Hepatitis B and C, HIV, MRSA, VRE, Scabies, Herpes Zoster, and C. difficile. We've also offered presentations and information on Wound Care, Surveillance of Infections, Dealing with Outbreaks, and Creating a Great Infection Control Program in the Long-Term Care Setting. We've focused on ordinary lab tests, such as: CBC, Protime, BNP and Cystatin-C, and the extraordinary: Weapons of Mass Destruction and Bioterrorism.
