The addition of residential services to the Center for Recovery completes the full continuum of adult substance abuse services at John Muir Behavioral Health Center.

For patients entering the residential program directly from the community there must be a pattern of substance abuse and behavior indicating a likely inability to maintain sobriety outside of a structured 24 hour setting.

For clients stepping down from inpatient detoxification the following conditions may indicate placement in the residential program:

Clients who live a distance from the Behavioral Health Center that is too far for daily commutes. Clients who cannot commute due to loss of driver's license, disability or lack of a vehicle. Clients who need a clean and sober living environment in early recovery. Clients whose EAP and/ or employer mandates 28-day residential treatment. Clients who are ordered by the court to residential treatment. Clients who have been unable to maintain sobriety in an outpatient environment

The residential program is appropriate for clients who do not have detox symptoms or medical complications but require structure 24 hours a day to apply specific coping skills and avoid relapse. Our recovery residence is located near the hospital campus, allowing clients to walk or shuttle the short distance to the Behavioral Health Center for treatment activities. Clients participate in the partial hospitalization treatment program during the day and specialized evening programming at night. These include attendance at community 12-step meetings, where patients are encouraged to get a sponsor.

The treatment philosophy for our residential program utilizes the disease concept to understand chemical dependency and promote abstinence. Our focus is on relapse prevention and behavior modification, utilizing group and individual therapies as well as many didactic and educational groups. All therapeutic services are provided by certified/licensed counselors.

Family members are encouraged to attend our family program on Saturday mornings. Individual family sessions are also available.

Each client is assigned an individual case manager who will guide the client through their recovery process. Patients complete their personal substance abuse history with acknowledgement of consequences of use. Our treatment program is structured and rigorous, encouraging clients to make the most of their time here in treatment. Clients attend groups from 9-4 pm when the day treatment clients leave the facility. Residential clients then begin the evening program which includes gym, meditation, relapse prevention groups, med education, house meetings and community 12 step meetings.

The residential program is under the direction of an ASAM certified MD. Psychiatric assessment is also offered by our program psychiatrist who specializes in dual diagnosis. Patients directly admitted to the program have a history and physical within 72 hours of admission. Relapse prevention is stressed in the program and relapse prevention tools are identified for each patient. A discharge plan is included in the initial treatment plan which is initiated the first day of admission.

All patients are oriented at the time of admission regarding the policy of random and for-cause drug screens. Patients under the influence are immediately removed from the residential program and assessed for an appropriate level of care.

All meals are served at the Behavioral Health Center; however our recovery residence stocks snacks. An overnight counselor is on site to provide supervision. Both males and females can be accommodated in 2 separate wings of the facility.
