The John Muir Health mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve with quality and compassion. Nursing is an integral part of this mission. John Muir Health offers a number of nursing services ranging from multiple inpatient and outpatient services to health and wellness programs at our Women's Health Center to chronic diabetic wound management at our Wound Care Center.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has awarded its Magnet recognition status for excellence in nursing services and quality nursing care to John Muir Medical Center - Walnut Creek Campus. The Magnet Recognition Program®; recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice and adherence to national standards for the organization and delivery of nursing services. The honor reflects that the nursing care program has been named one of the best in the nation.
Patients admitted to John Muir Medical Center encounter exceptional nursing care throughout every phase of their stay. Many nurses on our Concord and Walnut Creek campuses have specialty certifications in their areas of expertise including emergency, critical care, medical-surgical, perioperative, maternal-child, and rehabilitation to provide competent, personalized care.
Through evidence-based practices, innovation, and patient care models, the nursing culture will create a compassionate healing environment, ensure interdisciplinary collaboration and foster professional growth and satisfaction. This milieu will generate outstanding patient experiences and outcomes.

In 2004, John Muir Health began its journey to nursing excellence.
In February of 2008, the Walnut Creek Campus was awarded Magnet Recognition Program® status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The Concord Campus is currently on the journey. Magnet Designation is described as "an award given by the to hospitals that satisfy a set of criteria measuring the strength and quality of their nursing." According to the ANCC, Magnet designation is widely accepted as the gold standard of patient care.
Nurses from our Concord and Walnut Creek campuses are focused on creating and sustaining a professional working environment that will allow the registered nurse to achieve best practice patient outcomes and better customer and nursing satisfaction. The ANCC has offered us a guide to building a foundation of magnet principles called "The 14 Forces of Magnetism."
