The hip, compared to complex areas such as the back and knee, is a straightforward joint made for sturdiness. Covered by large, strong muscles of the thighs and buttocks, hips are usually able to withstand pressure and abuse. Hips joints carry much of your weight, so they are at risk for "wear and tear." Sports-related injuries, arthritis, strains, dislocations, and fractures do occur.
