According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, about 10.8 million visits are made to physicians' offices because of a knee problem. It is the most often treated anatomical site by orthopaedic surgeons. Injuries can be successfully treated conservatively with rest and exercise while others require surgery to correct. Injuries to the knee include damage to the ligament, tendon, cartilage, or meniscus often caused when twisting, pivoting, or decelerating through participation in sports related activities.
