At the John Muir Pediatric Unit, the health of your child is a family affair. We maintain a continual dialogue with you as you participate in making decisions about the plan of care for your child. Our attending pediatricians, pediatric cardiology, radiology, and pulmonary specialists, PAL certified nurses, and staff work with you during your stay, as well as determine treatment for those children with serious illnesses and conditions.

The Pediatric Unit's state-of-the-art facility was built with the family in mind. We have designed it to be as comfortable as possible. The unit includes colorful artwork of giraffes and cheerful animals; it provides a playroom as well as video games and toys that can be enjoyed in your room if necessary. Parents are able to stay with their child 24 hours a day - sleep and eat meals in their room - because we know from experience that you won't want to leave your child's side in this stressful time.

Children are not just small adults. Their bodies are of different proportions, and function at an entirely different level and rate as an adult. That's why everything from high-end medical technology to gowns and gurneys is designed for children. Special equipment is available that is calibrated to pediatric specifications and operated by highly qualified physicians and staff. The environment is cheerful, yet safe and secure.

Specialty services are available including breastfeeding support, social workers, discharge planners, and chaplain services.
