In 1997, John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus and John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus along with the John Muir Physician Network and the John Muir Behavioral Health Center joined together to form John Muir Health. We serve primarily the residents of Contra Costa County. Contra Costa County was recently identified as amongst the most educated and affluent in the state. Residents from neighboring counties also travel to receive care from John Muir Health physicians and hospitals.
Established in 1965, this renowned 321-bed facility is a private, not-for-profit medical center offering a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services including orthopedics, neuroscience, low- and high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, cardiovascular medicine, cancer care, and surgery. John Muir also serves as Contra Costa County's only trauma center and provides trauma care to southern Solano County as well. Specialty areas include rehabilitation, diabetes, services for seniors and more. As one of the largest employers in California's Contra Costa County, John Muir employs over 2,300 employees and is associated with more than 800 physicians covering the full range of medical services.
Founded in 1930, John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus is a 254-bed, private, not-for-profit medical center providing medical and acute care services. The medical center has long been recognized as a preeminent center for cancer care and cardiac care, including open heart surgery and interventional cardiology. Other specialty areas include general surgery, orthopedics and neurology. John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus's Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Contra Costa County. The John Muir Physician Network is a not-for-profit medical foundation of nearly 700 physicians, who deliver coordinated patient care in a wide range of practice locations. This organization was funded by John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus in February, 1996 as one of the first steps in the development of an integrated health delivery system, which emphasizes physician/hospital teamwork in a managed care environment. The formation of John Muir Health in 1997 merged the two hospitals, and set the stage for further partnerships with physicians. Currently, the Network consists not only of John Muir Medical Group, but also John Muir Medical Group (a 600-physician multi-specialty independent practice association).
The John Muir Behavioral Health Center offers inpatient and outpatient care for children, adolescents, adults and older adults experiencing emotional or behavioral problems, and for those dependent on alcohol or other drugs. The licensed 73-bed facility is located a short distance away from John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus. The experienced, professional staff members provide compassionate, individualized care in the least restrictive environment possible.
