John Muir Health to Become Tobacco Free;
September 8, 2008

Beginning September 8, John Muir Health is a tobacco-free organization. This means the use of tobacco or tobacco products is not allowed in or on any property, buildings, grounds and parking lots owned, leased or managed by John Muir Health, including private vehicles in John Muir-owned parking areas.

Although smoking or the use of tobacco has been prohibited within our medical centers for a number of years, this additional step includes: Elimination of all designated smoking areas on any John Muir Health property and the inability of physicians to write orders allowing patients to smoke on hospital premises.

Patients, visitors, employees or others are not being asked to quit using tobacco, but we are requiring that anyone wanting to use tobacco to leave John Muir Health property to do so. Please help us to be a good neighbor and do not litter when away from John Muir Health property.

We believe that one of the strongest statements we can make about how seriously we take our mission of promoting good health is to be tobacco free. We thank all of our patients and visitors for their cooperation in being tobacco-free while on John Muir Health property.
