From our earliest days, Volunteers have been an integral part of the fabric of John Muir Health. They enhance the patient care experience with their special skills and compassion. They support the efforts of our clinical professionals daily.
Through their generous commitment, our Volunteers bring a special touch that is uniquely John Muir Health to our patients, their families and visitors, and our physicians and staff.

Volunteers are very important to John Muir Health and have been an integral part of our family from the early days of our medical centers. We have nearly 1500 volunteers donating their time throughout all of our campuses, health facilities and outreach programs. Our volunteers enable us to meet our mission and to offer important services to our patients, visitors, staff members, physicians and community residents. John Muir Health Volunteers are screened and trained and adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. For further information see Standards and Procedures.
John Muir Health is very grateful for our generous volunteers. There are many ways individuals can serve as a volunteer. Some people volunteer within the medical centers and others volunteer at off-site locations. Some are involved behind the scenes, assisting with special projects and office tasks, and others have direct interaction with patients, visitors, and staff. Some provide services to seniors in our community and others are involved at the Garret Thrift Shop or the Gift Shops on our Concord and Walnut Creek campuses. We have physically active opportunities and sitting-only services. Volunteers may indicate their areas of interest, the location and program that best suits them, and we make the best match available!
