The John Muir Birth Center features one of Contra Costa County's most advanced licensed Community Level III Intensive Care Neonatal Nurseries. Neonatologists are available to manage the care of the tiniest and sickest newborns around the clock.
John Muir's team of specialists is ready 24 hours a day to provide emergency care for premature or severely ill newborns, including those who need monitoring, oxygen, ventilation therapy and resuscitation. The ICNN is staffed around the clock by dedicated and compassionate nurses with experience and clinical expertise in neonatal care.
Many babies who receive care in the ICNN require prolonged hospitalization - some for as long as six months. Because this makes frequent visits to the hospital very difficult for many families, John Muir Health created the TeleVisit Program. This unique program lets families visit their hospitalized infant from home, utilizing their regular telephone line and videophones provided by the John Muir Center at no cost to the family.
Our goal is the ultimate safety and full satisfaction of families and their babies. When compared to other hospitals offering similar services, John Muir's Birth Center rates are among the highest in perinatal outcomes.
One of the Bay Area's most comprehensive Breastfeeding program, the John Muir Birth Center and John Muir Women's Health Center provide education and support to new mothers to assist them with obtaining their nutrition goals for their babies.
