Breastfeeding Support Services

One of the Bay Area's most comprehensive Breastfeeding program, the John Muir Birth Center and John Muir Women's Health Center provide education and support to new mothers to assist them with obtaining their nutrition goals for their babies.
- Begin your education with a Breastfeeding Class to find out the basics and support services available during and after your delivery.
- Review your breastfeeding plan [returning to work?] and decide what supplies and support you may need.
- During you pregnancy it is important to wear a comfortable and supportive bra. Customized bra fitting is available pre and post delivery at the Women's Health Center and during your hospital stay.
- All of the nursing staff at the John Muir Birth Center is educated in the latest in Breastfeeding support and techniques. Ask your postpartum nurse for assistance. Lactation Nurses are available for difficult situations or premature infants.
Services at the Women's Health Center
Get the breastfeeding education and support you and your baby need from our board-certified lactation consultants. These experts assist women who are having breastfeeding problems and provide assistance to those returning to work. Breast pumps (rentals and sales), nursing bras, pillows and related supplies are available.
You may need a private consultation if your baby is experiencing slow weight gain or problems latching on, or if you're concerned about low milk supply, engorgement or nipple soreness. Medela® Symphony Breast Pump and Scale Rental Program @ the Women's Health Center
It is important that you rent a Breast Pump for the right reasons, and receive accurate information when using your rental pump. The John Muir Women's Health Center boasts one of the most comprehensive Breastfeeding Support programs in the Bay Area. This includes;
- Inpatient rounds 7 days per week at John Muir
- Intensive Care Nursery Rounds
- Free support Groups and 7 day Support Line
- Private Lactation Consultations by appointment
- Board Certified Lactation Consultants
- Full Retail Line of Products
- Certified Bra Fitting
- Certified Lactation Educators at the Women's Health Center
Rentals are made at the Birth Center or at the Women's Health Center. Talk to one of our Lactation Specialists to ensure renting verses buying is the best choice for you. Our contracts include ICD-9 and CPT codes helpful for billing purposes. Check with your insurance company for billing information. [We do not bill insurance companies]
