Medical expenses can seem overwhelming, but you don't have to face them alone. John Muir Health offers a number of programs that can help you cover the bills for services you have received through our hospitals.
For more information, please call Patient Financial Services at (866) 742-7471, Monday through Friday, between 8:15 AM and 4:15 PM.
Please note that the assistance services listed below apply to hospital charges only. For help with any doctor's bill, you must contact that doctor’s office directly. This includes doctor services provided in connection with a hospital service, such as physician services received in the emergency room.
This plan lets you divide your bill into three interest-free payments, due at regular intervals of no more than 30 days, starting from the discharge date. After 90 days, interest is charged.
If you meet income qualifications and need more time to pay, we offer a no-interest payment program beyond the standard three-month window.
This program pays all or part of your hospital bills. Qualification for the program, as well as the amount covered, is based on your household income and other factors.
If you are uninsured and don't qualify for the Patient Financial Assistance Program, you may qualify for a substantial discount on hospital emergency services you've received.
John Muir Health is not a contracted provider with many State of California healthcare programs, including MediCal. However, we accept members under these programs for many services accessed through the emergency departments of our hospitals.
To help our patients qualify for MediCal programs, we offer on-site eligibility services. These are provided through a contracted vendor, who will help you through the state-mandated process. This service is offered at no cost to you.
For more information about MediCal, please call (800) 709-8348 or visit medi-cal.ca.gov.
Other Health Insurance Programs
Other programs sponsored by the county or state may help you cover current or future healthcare services. Some of these programs are listed below.
Basic Health Care
Basic Adult Care is offered through Contra Costa County, and is for low-income adults who do not qualify for MediCal or other state healthcare programs. While this program does not currently cover any bills for services at John Muir Health hospitals, it will give you access to the services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for any follow-up or additional care. For more information on this program, please call (800) 771-4270 or visit cchealth.org
California Victim Compensation Program
If your bill is for services rendered for injuries you sustained as a crime victim, the State of California has a program to help. For further information or to apply for assistance, please call (800) 777-9229 or visit victimcompensation.ca.gov
